Zelda Ocarina Of Time Master Quest on N64 - The Fire Temple

The dungeon starts off with a bang as the stairs are trapped, and you'll have to go around the side. Once at the top, use Din's Fire in a strategic spot to light all the extinguished torches. The left door will open; go through it.

You are now in a large room. Ahead, Darunia, your sworn brother, recognizes you and explains the situation. The dragon Volvagia has been resurrected by Ganon, who wants to feed him the Gorons he has imprisoned in the temple. Furthermore, if the dragon escapes, he will reduce Hyrule to ashes. Darunia will try to stop the dragon but is not very confident without the Megaton Hammer. He asks you to take care of his Goron brothers while he deals with Volvagia. Go to the right and jump from platform to platform, then use the Hookshot to climb onto the high platform.

At the edge of this platform, use Din's Fire again to light the mini-torch below and the one in front of you (break the crate with a roll). Then stand with your back to the wall and try to align the torch near you with the one at the other end of the room. Shoot an arrow that should catch fire near you and ignite the torch far away. It's not easy, but you'll get it ;). The gate opposite has opened; go get the small key and exit the room through the middle door, the one you came from, to return to the hall. In the hall, go back down, remembering that the stairs are trapped. To the left as you go down the stairs, there is a locked door that you can now unlock.

You arrive in a small room where you'll need to defeat some Stalfos. Take the door that opens. Go to the corner of the room and crouch with your shield up; this is surely the easiest way to stop the floor tiles flying at you. Next, you'll have to fight the armored knight (Iron Knuckle). Once defeated, the door opens; go through it.

This mid-boss is a bit unusual. It's a kind of living scarecrow in the flames that seems controlled by a sort of bomb with eyes. To defeat it, the Hookshot is the easiest way. Target with "Z" to pull the ball out of the scarecrow's body. Once it's on the ground, hit it as much as possible. If it runs away, turn the other way to catch it; it's much simpler. After a few sword strikes, it jumps back into the flames and reforms its body. Repeat until this boss is destroyed and take the Megaton Hammer from the chest.

Go through the door that just opened. The button that opens the gate to save the Goron is rusty. A good hammer strike will unblock it. Talk to the Goron and take the map from the chest. Then kill the Like Like: you no longer have a boomerang, but the Hookshot works very well. Go back out into the hall.

Go to the top of the hall stairs (going around the side) and go right once at the top. With the hammer, smash the 3 blocks forming the statue that hides the door and go through it. In the large room, walk along the wall, and once at the end of the "path," walk through the lava a little bit to reach the platform. You'll need to time your movement as well as possible because the goal is to reach the platform that moves back and forth while spitting fire. Once on it, wait until you are under the torch and use Din's Fire to light it. Then use your Hookshot to latch onto this torch, which is not so simple. Take a bomb and blow up the door-shaped wall. Behind it is a real door. Before taking it, break the jar; it contains magic that you're probably starting to run low on. To rescue the Goron, use Din's Fire again. Once the torches are lit, the gate will open. Talk to the Goron and retrieve the small key.

Exit the prison room and head to the other side from where you entered (as if you had crossed the bridge). At the end of the bridge, turn left but do not go down along the plank. Continue a little into the lava and climb onto the block. This one will fly up. Turn toward the wall and jump into the alcove once at the top. Take the magic from the jar and use Din's Fire to light the torch. Position yourself in the corner of the alcove to aim at the torch near the gated door (down on the right), making sure the arrow passes through the torch you just ignited. Jump to the right and walk along the wall, then use the Hookshot to climb up and go through the door.

Avoid all the tiles flying at you (or stay in the corner with your shield). Once they're gone, use your Hookshot to cross the flames by aiming at the chest. To return, aim at the torch. Exit the room and jump down to take the corridor behind you and open the door. In the prison is a Goron who must be freed by hitting the switch with your Megaton Hammer. Note that there is a Gold Skulltula behind him. Exit the prison and go take the locked door at the end of the bridge.

In this room, a large circle of flame goes up and down, carrying a platform with it. Go down along the plank and climb up the wire mesh. At the top, climb onto the mesh and jump just below, then try to jump onto the platform at the moment it starts to rise (you can also jump directly from the mesh). The jump is not easy because it must be well-timed and not too long. Once at the top, take the door. Go toward the left and climb onto the first platform, then the second, and light the torch with Din's Fire. Then use the Hookshot to change sides and climb up to the wire mesh which you'll need to climb as well. Arriving at the top, take the door.

You find yourself in a large, somewhat labyrinthine room. Start by going left and walk along the wall on your right. You'll reach an alcove. Place a bomb against the left part of the wall to blow it up. Hit the switch thus revealed with your hammer. Turn around, walk a few steps, and then use your Hookshot to reach the upper part of the room. Jump across to place a bomb where the large fissure is. Climb down the mesh and then break the crates to discover a rusty button that you can activate with the hammer. Two gates open, revealing a chest containing the compass.

Climb back up the mesh and head south while staying in the upper part of the room; the wall is quite thin, so be careful not to fall. At the end of the path, shoot an arrow through the gate to activate the switch that will open the gate. Jump into the alcove and break a large crate to take a small crate. Go down and head to the far north of the room. Place the small crate to blow up the wall, and then take it back to place it on the large blue switch. The door opens; take it and go free the 4th Goron by walking on the large button and talking to him. Take the key from the prison and exit. In the large room, use the Hookshot to get onto the walls and target the West (North) door to unlock and enter it. Before entering, you can go find a Gold Skulltula.

In this lava-filled room, start by turning counter-clockwise to go around the gate. At the end, take a small crate and go down between the gate and the wall to place the crate on the blue switch. Climb back up by hooking onto the large crate with the Hookshot. Go roughly to the center of the room where the torches that were lit are located. Turn toward the Center-East and once again, light the torch in the middle of the wall by shooting an arrow through the first torch. The door to your right opens; run and jump to take it, then cross the small corridor. In this room are 2 Gold Skulltulas. There is also another one much further away. You can get all 3 Gold Skulltulas by doing a loop. Once collected, go onto the large block sticking out right in front of you and hit it with your hammer. You'll arrive in the large room just to the left of the entrance hall, where you met Darunia. Enter the boss door.

The Fire Temple - Boss : Volvagia, Subterranean Lava Dragon Play music

Here you are in the boss room. To face him, simply go onto the central platform. Volvagia, the subterranean dragon, then bursts from the ground and flies across the room before diving back in.

Volvagia is not very difficult to beat. At the start of the fight, he will pop his head out of one of the holes in the floor (you'll see flames coming out of the hole before he arrives) and you'll need to hit him on the head with the hammer to stun him. His head will then rest on the ground, and you must hit it with your sword. Afterward, Volvagia will either just stick his head out, in which case you repeat the maneuver, or he will come out fully. In that case, he will attack you by breathing fire or dropping rocks. Run to avoid his attacks until he returns to the ground. Later, Volvagia ignites several holes before sticking his head out; be quick to attack him when he emerges.

Volvagia is defeated, and his scorched head turns into a heart. A large explosion rings out throughout Hyrule, and the sky becomes blue again. Darunia reveals himself as the Sage of Fire. Your sworn brother thanks you and gives you the Fire Medallion containing the power of fire and his friendship.
