After winning the Shaolin tournament against Shang Tsung, Liu Kang returns to his temple. He finds the sacred place in ruins, his Shaolin brothers killed in a brutal battle against a horde of Outworld warriors. Now he travels to the dark realm to seek revenge.

With the Shaolin temple in ruins, Liu Kang stays in the Outworld, enters Shao Kahn's tournament and unleashes a rage that ends with Shao Kahn's defeat. Liu Kang then returns to the solitude of his Shaolin temple. He prays for his fallen brothers and realizes that the events that took place were his destiny.
