Zelda Ocarina Of Time Master Quest on N64 - Dodongo's Cavern

If you aren't in the large room (above) at first, pick up a bomb flower (to the left of the entrance) and blow it up on the wall facing the entrance. In this level, I advise you to equip the Hylian shield when the other isn't useful because the Deku shield can burn (lava, fire keese,...) and you'll have to buy it back.

First, jump into the middle, take the bomb flower and throw it at the wall at the back right of the room. You'll reveal a chest; take the Dungeon Map inside.

Go back to the center, take the bomb flower and destroy the stone just below the wall you just opened. A switch appears. Step on it to make the platform that goes up and down go higher than before.

Return to the center, take the bomb flower and destroy the stone just below the wall you just opened. A switch appears. Step on it to make the platform go higher. Get on this platform and jump to the ledge at the very top. Head left and cross the bridge. At the very end, there is a switch; step on it to open a gate.

Jump down and take the door at the back left of the room (relative to the entrance). In this large room, you'll need to find 5 diamonds / crystals. Start by taking a bomb flower to kill the eye shooting lasers. Another to blow up the wall and a final one to blow up the other eye which will leave a diamond. If you take the back door, there is a gold skulltula. Take the diamond then take out a Deku stick and light it with the torch. Use it to light the bomb flower by passing next to it. Quickly pick up the bomb flower and throw it in the middle of all the others around the big stone block. The goal is to make it blow up the 2 bomb flowers on each side. If you aimed well, a chain reaction will be created on each side of the big block which will "collapse" forming a giant staircase.

Before climbing it, go to its left and destroy the crate at the back to find a second diamond. Once at the top of the stairs, go left and roll into the crate to find the third diamond. Continue climbing, kill the 2 big skulltulas, blow up the crate in the opposite corner from the one containing the 3rd diamond to find the fourth diamond. Finally, climb the vines in the middle of the room to find the last diamond. If you found all 5 crystals, the gate behind the vines will open, leaving the door free. Go through the door.

In this room, quickly climb the central pillar to avoid being attacked by the "small" dodongos. Once at the top, try to drop the bomb flowers below while avoiding being hit by the explosion. With a little patience, you should eliminate all the dodongos without trouble. Take the compass from the chest that appears and go through the door that just opened. This door leads to the central room. Cross it while staying on the upper floor; be careful not to fall off the bridge or you'll have to climb back up.

You arrive in a large room with pillars, torches hanging on the wall and brown blocks to pull. Start by pulling the 3 brown blocks to the 3 torches fixed on the 3 pillars. You'll need to pull them "out" of their respective corridors and then pull them to the right. As we will see, they must be placed relatively precisely. Personally, once out of the corridor, I pulled the right one 3 times to the right (it's then aligned with the pillar). I pulled the middle one 4 times to the right (one "notch" further than alignment with the pillar). I pulled the left one 6 times to the right (alignment with the other side of the pillar). Once this work is done, go up the ladder; you'll have to stay precise but be fast. Not so simple. Go to the torch and go a little past it. Turn around and press Z to reset the camera. Link will have to pass to the right of all the torches to pick up fire on the first one right in front of you and light the others as he passes. So advance while taking the fire and jump towards the left of the room. You must climb on the left brown block (or fall onto it) and light the torch above it. Then, you'll have to jump from block to block to light the other 2. Personally, I took my time to position myself well in front. I even put my stick away and took it back out to light it from the freshly lit torch. "Z" targeting can help you. You can also go down from the block because by climbing it, you'll naturally be more in front. To the north of the room, you'll find a gold skulltula. Don't forget it because you'll have to light the torches again if you return to the dungeon. With this difficulty passed, follow one of the corridors, go pull the block under the ladder and climb the ladder. Once at the top, turn around, jump onto the big platform to light a stick and turn around again to reach the corridor at the top of the ladder with a precise jump (so as not to lose the torch). At the end of the corridor, light the torch and the spider web.

In this new room, start simply by taking out the skulltula and lighting the torch in front of you. Then jump to the left while watching out for the mini dodongos (eliminate them). At the back of the "corridor", pull the brown block all the way down the corridor so you can climb on it and get out on the other side of the room.

Cross the corridor while eliminating keese and big skulltulas. Get fire from the torch to drop the bomb flower on the wall and throw it against the wall blocking your path. Go through the door to arrive in a large room where 2 lizalfos await you. After a bitter fight aided by your Hylian shield, you triumph over the 2 humanoid lizards. The door opens. Note that there is a gold skulltula in this room if you blow up the stones but for that, you'll need bombs.

In this new room, start by jumping down to the left and roll into the crate at the back to free a "diamond" switch hidden behind it. Then go back up to the starting platform and shoot the switch with your slingshot. Jump to the next platform whose fire has disappeared and turn to the left to see an opening in the wall. Kill the keese with the slingshot and jump to take the bomb flower. Turn around and dash to the back left of the room (to the North-West) to throw the bomb flower and blow up a big stone that will release a switch. Step on it, activate the other switch as you pass and go back to the room entrance to quickly cross it (you can also go back up first and activate the first switch with the slingshot). Continue straight ahead until the central room and blow up the rocks using the bomb flower right in front.

For the next action, scout the area well. It's easy but if you fail, you'll have to do the big loop again. Take the bomb flower and quickly jump down to blow up the South-East wall of the main room. In the twisted corridor, jump on the small white blocks. The one against the wall will serve as an elevator. Pick up the bomb flower and throw it towards the bomb flower on the wall that is just after the "step". There will be a chain reaction passing through the ceiling to blow up a rock releasing an eye in a yellow diamond. With the slingshot, shoot the eye and the fire keese protecting the door that has just been released. Go through the door.

Cross the corridor while avoiding the baby dodongos and go through the door. The next room is another fight against 2 Lizalfos (it's actually the same room but one floor below the other fight). Win it and go through the door.

In the next room, take the bomb flowers and place them just below those colonizing the walls. The chain explosion will allow you to open the doors. Go through the back door (if you take the one at the beginning of the corridor, you'll find a gold skulltula). A bit further, in a chest, you'll find the Bomb Bag.

Go back down to the central room and get on the platform that goes to the top of the room. At the top, jump to the edge and go left to pass over the bridge with holes. Stand right at the edge of each hole to drop a bomb. If you are close enough to the edge, it will fall into the hole directly into each eye of the monster-skull statue. The monster's mouth opens revealing a door. Go through it.

In this square room, take the passage on the right and follow the corridor. Fight baby dodongos and the Lizalfos to be at peace and pull the tomb near the fire. Climb on it to throw a bomb over the flames. This will activate a switch that makes them disappear. From there, you can see a gold skulltula on the ceiling. On the other side, an army of Armos awaits you, stoic like chess pieces. Throw a bomb towards the right to trigger a chain explosion and place bombs around you because the Armos will attack you relentlessly. Try to quickly take the translucent stairs to pass through the opening opposite.

Dodongo's Cavern - Boss: King Dodongo, Infernal Dinosaur Play music

Here you are in the boss room. To face him, you must place a bomb in the center of the room and jump into the hole, but before jumping, go take the bombs in the chest. You are now facing the boss: King Dodongo.

The Infernal Dinosaur (...) is a bit scary to look at but is quite easy to defeat. He has two attacks (breathing fire and rolling) which can both be avoided by sticking to the wall or staying along the lava. For the roll, the Hylian shield is the best defense. If Dodongo prepares to breathe fire, throw a bomb or a bomb flower into his mouth. He will collapse; meanwhile, take out your sword (B) and target him (Z). Then press A to perform the attack that hurts him. When Dodongo takes a hit, he regains his senses and curls into a ball (unless he's dead). Your Hylian shield will protect you.

King Dodongo is defeated, you can take the heart he left behind and then exit by going into the circle of light. The moment you come out, Darunia arrives and congratulates you; the Gorons will finally be able to eat their fill. The leader explains that it was surely Ganondorf who blocked the door because he offered the Gorons to release the entrance in exchange for the stone. He offers to become blood brothers and gives you the Spiritual Stone of Fire (Goron's Ruby). The Gorons arrive to congratulate you and Link flees.
