Those who have been reading me for a long time know: as a child, I loved adventure games. Thus, Zelda, Battle of Olympus, Faxanadu and other Simon's Quest games particularly marked me. Of those I just mentioned, Castlevania II remains the one I liked the least, which is why it is the last one I am tackling. In redoing it for my site, I think I see why. The atmosphere of the game is particularly successful, the slightly dark music of the villages, the excellent music of the day and the extremely strange but nonetheless striking music of the Dungeons. I think I hadn't launched this game for 25 years and yet, they were still in my head. I don't mean that I remembered them by listening to them but rather that I remembered them before and that I was able to hum them (or hear them in my head, the dungeon music is not singable). Anyway, this atmosphere, forest, village, dungeon,... is the success of the game but the big black point is the "dungeons". It's also what we were entitled to expect as being the most successful. Somewhere, a dungeon should have resembled a level from the 1st one. That's what we were waiting for. And I'm not talking about the bosses... From 1 to 4 via 3, the bosses are a known thing, mastered, a hallmark of the series: grandiose, original, striking enemies. There, there are in all and for all 3 bosses in the whole game. It's ridiculous. Allowing oneself not to put a boss per level is shameful. Moreover, they are all 3 failed. Overall, the dungeons are extremely bland in their construction and even their scenery is too light. An obvious lack of personality where a screen from Castlevania 1 is enough to know what level you are in. Add to that vicious and pointless traps, the "fake floor" which will sometimes make you re-traverse the whole level. In short, let's not sulk our pleasure of traveling through Transylvania because this part remains very successful for me. There isn't that much scenery but you are really immersed in the atmosphere and the bestiary is still very nice even if we meet a lot of skeletons in the game compared to the rest. Usually, I tell you that the walkthrough spoils the fun but not here because it is one of the rare games where I got stuck at the time (at the same time, I didn't speak English but anyway, it's not so easy to find the clues).

The file / complete walkthrough of Castlevania 2 - Simon's Quest on Nintendo Entertainment System and Nes mini

This Castlevania II Simon Quest file contains first and foremost a walkthrough. This one has a very classic format with alternating a page to explain how to get to each mansion and the mansion in question. In Castlevania 2, we talk about mansions. ( Walkthrough 1 (leading to Berkeley Mansion), Walkthrough 2 (leading to Rover Mansion), Walkthrough 3 (leading to Brahms Mansion), Walkthrough 4 (leading to Bodley Mansion), Walkthrough 5 (leading to Laruba Mansion), Walkthrough 6 (leading to the ruins of Castlevania) in this last part, you will fight against Dracula. ). In order to evoke the context a bit, you will also find in this walkthrough a prologue part (very small introduction to the game and some personal notes) an epilogue part (much longer because there are 3 different endings and the European and Japanese versions are different). In order to help you as much as possible, I found a person who agreed for me to publish their work and who made magnificent maps of the game. They are credited at the bottom of each page, I invite you to visit "their" site. You will therefore find maps (which are worth more than my long speeches) for the following mansions: Berkeley house, Rover house, Brahm (Braham) house, Bodley house, Laruba house and Castle vania. The villages are not left out since they are also all there, namely: Town of Jova, Town of Veros, Town of Aljiba, Town of Alba, Town of Ondol, Town of Doina and Town of Yomi. To finish on the maps and the walkthrough, you will also find an official map illustration from Nintendo magazines of the time (Game Atlas for example) on which I drew the routes since this map is consistent. I also put links on mansions and villages. The person who made the maps did their job well since they also put EVERYTHING on one and the same screenshot map. A summary of the whole game in one image. To be seen. You will also find 3 pages that I generally like to do in my latest files, namely: A tutorial, an enemy section and an object section. The opportunity to add illustrations from the manual on my site. I wish you a good reading.
