Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link on NES (mini) and GBA (NES Classic): Items and Magic in Hyrule

Essential Items

	Candle It illuminates places that were plunged in darkness. This candle is found in the first palace (Parapa Palace) and is used to light up Hyrule's caves. You won't get far without it, even though technically nothing stops you from finishing the game without picking it up.
	Glove Use it to smash blocks in the palace with your sword. This glove is found in the second palace (Midoro Palace) and is used to break the square stone blocks frequently seen in the palaces.
	Hammer It smashes rocks on the overworld map and can cut down trees. Press the A button to use it. This hammer is found in the Death Mountain Labyrinth and is used to smash specific rocks blocking paths on the map.
	Raft Leave the jetty with it to cross the sea. What will you find beyond the ocean? This raft is found in the third palace (Island Palace) and is used to cross the vast sea, starting from the jetty near the port town of Mido to reach the two separated islands.
	Boots Legend says that if you wear these boots, you can perform amazing feats. These boots are found in the fourth palace (Maze Palace) and are used to walk on water in specific places. With their help, you can reach the sea palace.
	Flute The mysterious music of Hyrule possesses the power to awaken ancient forces. This flute is found in the fifth palace (Sea Palace) and is used to drive away the black river spider (river devil) south of Mido.
	Magical Key This magical key opens multiple locked doors. This magical key is found in New Kasuto and is used to open all locked doors. Therefore, you will no longer need to search for keys inside palaces.
	Cross Because of its secret power, the cross makes previously invisible enemies visible. This cross is found in the sixth palace (Palace of the 3 Stone Eyes) and is used to see invisible monsters like the Moas in old Kasuto.

Magical Spells

Shield

Shield: Temporarily increases Link's life level. Cuts enemy attack damage in half. This spell is most useful while Link's level is low.

You will find this spell in Rauru Town. Once used, Link will only lose half his normal life points after taking a hit until you change screens.

Jump

Jump: This spell helps Link make a long jump. He can reach heights that would otherwise be impossible.

You will find this spell in Ruto Town. Once cast, Link will jump high.

Life

Life: Helps restore Link's life points (up to a certain limit). Use it before it's too late.

You will find this spell in Saria Town. It restores 3 life containers for Link.

Fairy

Fairy: Gives you the ability to fly to escape enemies during combat on difficult terrain like steep cliffs.

You will find this spell in Mido Town. Once cast, Link transforms into a fairy and can fly. You cannot attack while you are a fairy.

Fire

Fire: When you press this button, you shoot a fireball along with your sword slash using the B button. Surely there are some enemies who hate fire.

You will find this spell in Nabooru Town. Once cast, Link shoots fireballs with his sword.

Reflect

Reflect: A magical shield upon which palace magicians' spells rebound. Normally, shields only protect against magic power.

You will find this spell in Darunia Town. Once cast, Link will be able to deflect specific attacks (especially the ghost attacks in the Maze Palace). Additionally, his shield will stop attacks that previously would have passed right through him.

Spell

Spell: Allows you to cast spells. Its power isn't very well known, but it is said that enemies tremble with fear.

You will find this spell in New Kasuto Town. It transforms fairly strong enemies into relatively weak ones.

Thunder

Thunder: The most powerful of the eight magics, thunder can disable every enemy on the screen. However, Link must be very powerful to use it.

You will find this spell in Old Kasuto Town. It will kill weak enemies and weaken other monsters present on the screen.

Techniques

Downward Thrust

This technique is taught to you by a swordsman in Mido town. You will find him on top of the church; use Jump to get up there. With the downward thrust, you can hit enemies that were previously too low to reach.

Upward Thrust

This technique is taught to you by a swordsman in Darunia town. You will find him in the first house of the second section. Use Jump to climb onto the roof, then jump from roof to roof and enter through the chimney. With the upward thrust, you can hit any monster that was too high up for a normal jump and sword slash to reach.

Trade Items

Ruto Trophy

You must return this trophy to a woman in Ruto to enter her house and learn the "Jump" spell.

Water of Life

You must return this water to an old woman in Mido who needs to heal her daughter. She will then grant you access to her house where an old sage will teach you the "Fairy" spell.

Darunia Woman's Son

You must return this child to his mother in Darunia. She will then grant you access to her house where an old sage will teach you the "Reflect" spell.

Consumable Items

Doll

These dolls give you an extra life. Here are their locations:

In Morudge Swamp.
Southwest of the graveyard.
Near the bridge leading to the northeast labyrinth.
Northwest of the sixth palace.
In the Palace of the 3 Stone Eyes.
In the Grand Palace.

Red Potion

These red potions will restore all your magic points. There are many of these inside palaces (within some Ironknuckle statues) so I will only list the one in the overworld.

East of Midoro Palace.
In the graveyard of the first part of Hyrule (southwest of Mido).
East-northeast of Nabooru.
At the beginning of the lava path leading to the Grand Palace.

You will also find them in the Death Mountain Labyrinth.

Fairies

These fairies will restore all your life points.

North of Morudge Swamp
East of Saria, past the bridge.
South of the East Hyrule jetty.

Treasure Bag

These bags will grant you experience points. I have only listed those found on the map, but you can also find them inside palaces.

Bag 50

In a forest above Rauru's wonderful old town.
