1 - Roll into the Cage

For this first star, try entering right on the hour — you won't need the mechanisms, which will make things easier. Follow the path, being careful not to fall. At some point, you'll reach a big platform with a hand and a black ball that shoots fire. Go straight to reach the hexagonal platforms. Keep following the path. If you entered right on the hour, you'll reach the star without too much trouble.

2 - The Pit and the Pendulums

As with star 1, try entering right on the hour. Go to star 1, but instead of entering the grate, climb onto it and keep going. Climb along the bar, watch out for the "crumb-collecting robot", and jump onto the yellow triangle, then go grab the star, being careful not to fall. Careful: the small path leading to the star is slightly lower and isn't connected either to the platform with the star or to the one with the blue button.

3 - Get a Hand

This time, you'll need to take a bit more risk, since you must NOT enter right on the hour. For example, you could enter at "15". Climb up to the first big platform where the black fireball is (be careful, the big cubes now spin in place). Once there, wait for the big hand and climb onto it (preferably on the red tip). Wait for it to carry you to the star — be careful not to hit the wall when jumping onto the square; you can also just run, and normally Mario will grab onto the edge.

4 - Stomp on the Thwomp

Brace yourself, because this is one of the hardest in the game. Enter the clock at "15" to make things easier and start the climb as if heading to star 1. At the mast, go the other direction to reach the top of the grate where the heart is. Keep climbing by taking the elevator and jumping onto the hexagonal platform. One of the tricky jumps comes right after the cubes (3). Stand at the right edge of the platform and simply do a running double jump with a short first hop to reach the next platform. Follow the path without getting pushed off, climb onto the conveyor belts, pass the 2 spinning platforms, and wait for the hand without getting your backside burned. Wait for the hand to carry you to the other side, then jump onto the conveyor belt and do a double jump onto the crusher before going to grab the star.

5 - Timed Jumps on Moving Bars

Enter at 15. Take the same path as for star 4 up to the heart. Then take the elevator, jump onto the hexagonal gear, but instead of continuing to climb, jump onto the grate. At the end of the grate, 3 blocks pop out of the wall at regular intervals. Jump onto the middle one, then onto the 3rd one to get onto the grate and grab the level's 5th star.
